In June 2015, the Lord Mayor announced that he would make $251,000 available for small businesses and community groups across Brisbane to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to assist in reducing crime and increasing safety in their business and community precincts.
The 2015-16 grant round is now open and closes on 7 September 2015.
Individual grants range from $1,000 to $10,000 with Council providing 80 per cent of the funding needed for the project.
This grant will allow local businesses, not-for-profit community groups and sporting clubs to apply for funds to implement safety and security measures such as improved lighting, way-finding signage, effective anti-graffiti management and installation of CCTV cameras for precinct safety improvements.
Since 2013, Council has provided $573,959 to 93 organisations to improve community safety in their neighbourhoods.
Application guidelines and application forms can be found on Council’s website www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/grants.
