Update on Bridgeman and Beckett Road Corridor upgrade.

Major northside upgrade nears completion

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced Bridgeman Downs motorists are set to save precious time as a $66.3 million northside corridor upgrade nears completion.

Council has now switched on the traffic lights at the Graham, Bridgeman and Beckett Roads intersection, as part of stage two of the Bridgeman Road and Beckett Road corridor upgrade.

The Lord Mayor said the project was another part of Council’s commitment to reducing traffic congestion and improving safety and traffic flow throughout Brisbane’s suburban road network.

“Council has delivered 85 projects across Brisbane since 2008 as part of its Road Action Program, an unprecedented infrastructure investment fast tracking 15 years of works into just four years,? Cr Quirk said.

Stage two of the $11.7 million project includes:
• widening the current road to four lanes with centre median between Beams Road and Graham Road
• installing on-road bike lanes and pedestrian footpaths
• installing u-turn facilities along Bridgeman Road (north of Graham Road and south of Beams Road)
• installing traffic signals at the Beams and Graham Roads intersection

Local Councillors Amanda Cooper (Bracken Ridge) and Norm Wyndham (McDowall) said the project they had long lobbied for would be a real win for residents.

“The Bridgeman Road and Beckett Road corridor upgrade is set to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow to benefit northern Brisbane motorists and save them precious time during peak hours,? Cr Cooper said.

“We are already seeing broader benefits to the surrounding local traffic network with the construction of stage one – the missing link between Beams Road and Carseldine Road.?

Cr Wyndham said the Bridgeman Road and Beckett Road corridor upgrade, between Beams and Graham Roads, also received $2.67 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.

“It’s all part of Council’s plan to build better roads for Brisbane,? he said.

Stage three of the Bridgeman and Beckett Roads corridor upgrade is expected to be completed in mid December 2011 and will improve Beckett Road between Albany Creek Road and Saturn Crescent and include the upgrade of the Darien Street and Beckett Road intersection.

Since 2008, Council’s Road Action Program has delivered $460 million worth of projects, with around $105 million in cost savings.
Stage one was completed in April 2011.
